Natural Gas Dial

Renewegy is currently working with an industrial engine company looking to break into the on-highway engine market. With Renewegy’s experience in emissions certification and engine controls, the project is a natural fit for Renewegy.

There are tremendous opportunities in the on-highway engine market with new emissions standards becoming active in 2016. The emission standards are forcing and engineering redesigns of a majority of the current on-highway market. In addition, the North America natural gas boom has cut the cost of natural gas by about half since 2006 and made natural gas an option for powering on-highway vehicles. One can already see city buses that have been converted to natural gas to not only save costs, but reduce emissions.

Natural gas engine conversion does have its challenges. Natural gas does not have as wide a distribution network as gasoline or diesel. However, the distribution network is capable of expansion because millions of homes and businesses use natural gas for heat. The challenge would come in designing a delivery system analogous to gasoline or diesel. An alternative for fleet vehicles is to carry enough natural gas in a storage container to fuel all vehicles.
